Plazuela De Iloilo Expansion Underway

With the increase of employment generated by the BPOs and the increasing demand of locators for quality retail shops in the area,  Florete Land Inc. broke ground last month its latest retail project, the expansion project of Plazuela de Iloilo, a premier mixed-use development  that redefined retailtainment in Iloilo City.

Plazuela II is a validation of the enormous success of Florete Land Inc.’s first commercial venture and is envisioned to expand the commercial potential of Plazuela de Iloilo. Palafox Associates, through its desgin arm Palafox Architecture Group, is proud to be chosen to continue Florete’s vision of connecting Iloilo’s Hispanic-European links, the Filipino’s love for shopping malls, and the growing popularity of mixed-use developments.

Plazuela II is an 8,891-square-meter expansion project linked to Plazuela I via an interconnecting footbridge, expected to expand commercial potentials. To complement the whole retail development, an area for a supermarket and an al fresco dining area will be allotted to meet the increase of BPO personnel within the community looking for an alternative dining experience during and after mall hours.

The development’s architectural character is derived from turn-of-the-century Spanish-Iloilo-Philippine architectural design, which is seen on its arcaded hallway design and use of grand staircases. Warm colors like beige, ochre yellow, and white creates a dynamic and muted sophisticated ambiance.

Plazuela has been popular for its spacious promenades that follows Palafox Architecture’s principles for pedestrianism. Manicured gardens complete the look.

Parallel to the expansion is the extension of Calle Florete, which will serve as the heart of Plazuela Dos, captivating the festive mood of Iloilo. The extension will have the same Spanish-Iloilo-Philippine architectural character as main Plazuela I, from its material finishing to the pedestrian movement within the area to create coherence and blend with the unique identity that Plazuela I has already created.

Like Plazuela I, it is also envisioned to be “flood-free” by elevating it to almost two meters from street level, with 24/7 security and operations to ensure the constant flow of revenue.

Dr. Rogelio Florete, President of Florete Group of Companies was present along with daughter Margaret Ruth Florete, and Congressman Jerry Treñas during the Plazuela Dos groundbreaking ceremony last December 21. Palafox Architecture Group's Karima Palafox was also present for the ceremony.

"This is another major investment from a full-blooded Ilonggo," Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog told Dr. Florete during the groundbreaking ceremony.  "Thank you for believing in the stability of this administration."  Plazuela Dos is set to be completed by the end of 2015.
