A MAJOR LOCAL COMMERCIAL AND BUSINESS player is set to revitalize the old  sections of Davao’s downtown. Felcris Hotels and Resorts Corporation’s flagship project, Felcris Centrale, will finally open its doors to the Davaoeños this October. The first phase of the project includes the mall and  BPO building. The second phase of the project, the development’s hotel and residential tower, is still under construction.

Palafox Associates, through its Architecture Group, helped conceptualize the architecture and interior design of the development.  Felcris Centrale’s façade is sculpted to represent the traditional vintas and Philippine Eagle, both of which are unique to Mindanao. This is evident in the upward sloping of the development’s roofs to mimic the Philippine eagle in flight and use of parallel lines on the pedestrian walkways, reminiscent of the vinta’s sail pattern. The façade is carefully designed to respond appropriately to the Davao climate and provide comfort all year round for the occupants.

Felcris is easily accessible from neighboring business establishments, government offices, and residential communities. Palafox Associates also considered the area’s flood history and integrated adaptive architecture elements into the architectural design. The whole development is elevated above the flood lines, as well as its main activity area and walkway.

Located in a 5.9 hectare lot along Quimpo Boulevard, the first phase of the Felcris Centrale development broke ground in 2012, and  features a 3-storey commercial complex with a 12-floor office space. The first two levels will be the development’s retail and entertainment center. A new mall also offers an exciting and eclectic mix of shops and restaurants that is complemented by a fully-landscaped activity and entertainment area. The interior walkways will showcase Davao as the “Fruit and Flower Basket of the Philippines” consisting of flower stalls, fruit stalls, local delicacies and handicrafts.

“Felcris Centrale will be an exciting jolt at the heart of downtown Davao City, which has not seen any big commercial developments in a long time,” says Cassandra Yap, Executive Vice President of Felcris Centrale during the groundbreaking in 2012. “In this new endeavor, we intend to take the next step in our family’s vision. This has been a life long dream of the Yap family.”

The Felcris Brand

The Yap family, owners of Felcris Centrale, began their foray into the retail business when two Yap brothers, Felipe “Fel” and Cresencio “Cris” Yap opened a small retail store in Anda Street in Davao in 1969.  The business expanded by opening up Felcris Supermarket in 1976, the first established supermarket in Davao City. The Yap family is also responsible for the first warehouse club, the Davao Central Warehouse Club in Agdao, and the pioneered the convenience store industry with Davao Central Convenience Store, which opened in 1997.

Aimed to be a catalyst for development in barangay Bucana and mold the future skyline in Davao City, Felcris Centrale will be the site of a new mall, offices for BPO companies, and an activity area to create a robust network of people, information, and resource to meet the need for speed and innovation. The development has been accredited by PEZA, and is set to employ hundreds of workers in the Davao Region.
