Palafox named CTBUH Fellow

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat(CTBUH), a Chicago-based professional organization, announced last July 01, 2013 the appointment of Filipino Architect-Urban Planner Felino "Jun" Palafox, Jr. as one of their two newest Fellows. CTBUH Fellows are recognized for their contribution to the Council over an extended period of time, and in recognition of their work and the sharing of their knowledge in the design and construction of tall buildings and urban habitat.

"[Palafox] presents a different kind of energy than just being on a panel or committee," CTBUH Chairman Timothy Johnson remarked. "He represents a good benchmark and way to think about what this particular title is all about."

Before being named as a CTBUH Fellow, Palafox has been serving as the organization's Philippines Country Representative since 2009. He has actively participated as a speaker in three CTBUH international conferences in India, South Korea, and China. Beyond CTBUH, he has also traveled to 13 other countries to be a speaker and share his knowledge and expertise in architecture, planning and design.

Palafox is the Principal Architect-Urban Planner, Founder and Managing Partner of Palafox Associates, a global multi-disciplinary firm of top architects, planners, designers, and engineers.

He led and managed Palafox Associates in carrying out more than 900 projects in 37 countries, including the master planning of over 14 billion square meters of land area and the architecture of more than eight million square meters of building floor area. In 2012, his firm was ranked no. 89 in the list of top architectural practices in the world and no. 8 in leisure projects, according to the BD World Architecture magazine of London. Palafox Associates has also been maintaining its ISO 9001 and 14001 Certifications for their Integrated Quality and Management Systems for 12 consecutive years.

He holds a degree in Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas, a Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of the Philippines, and a diploma in Advanced Management Development Program in real estate from Harvard University's Graduate School of Design. As President of the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners (PIEP) for 2013 and 2014, he takes a stand in protecting and enhancing the environment. He is also an international associate/member of international organizations such as the US Green Building Council, American Institute of Architects (AlA), Urban Land Institute (ULI), Congress for the New Urbanism and American Planning Association (APA).
The CTBUH is the world’s leading body in the field of tall buildings. It is a non-profit association of 40 years standing with a dual mission to disseminate multi-disciplinary best practice information on tall buildings, and facilitate business exchange amongst its international network. It is also the body that arbitrates on tall building height and determines the title of "The World's [or Country's or City's] Tallest Building".
Palafox will receive his recognition as Fellow at the CTBUH Awards Dinner, November
7, at S.R. Crown Hall, Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.
