Architecture of Global Excellence in 40 Years

Architect and Urban Planner Felino "Jun" Palafox, Jr. celebrated his 40th anniversary in the architecture profession last 08 October 2012 in the Ayala Museum. Well-wishers from five continents and different professions like architects, engineers, designers, doctors, professors, lawyers, scientists, diplomats, developers, and seminarians, among others, all came together to share this milestone with Palafox.

Hosted by Mr. Johnny Litton, the occasion was made very memorable with the attendance of H.E. Harry K. Thomas, Jr. (USA), H.E. Christopher Thornley (Canada), H.E. Heikki Hannikainen (Finland), H.E. Jorge Dumecq (Spain), Senator Manny Villar, Mr. Hans T. Sy (SM Prime Holdings), Mr. Tony Aquino (Ayala Land), Mr. Jose Y. Quiros (Mesaland), Mr. Peng Perez de Tagle (Manila Southwoods), Mr. Allen Roxas (State Properties), Mr. Meneleo Carlos (Riverbanks Development Corp.), Mr. Mic Yaxley (Halcrow), Mr. Alfred Li (Tzu Chi Foundation), Mr. Hubert d'Aboville (European CHamber of Commerce of the Philippines), PM Cesar Virata, and representatives from various business, academic, civic, religious and advocacy groups like the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP), Management Association of the Philippines(MAP), Makati Business Club (MBC), Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, American Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Chamber of Commerce, German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce, Philippine Constitution Association, Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement, Philippine Business for the ENvironment, Rotary Club Districts, SVD, Philippine Alliance of Ex-Seminarians, Philippine Insitute of Environmental Planners, Philippine Institute of Architects, Green Convergence, and many others.

Surprises were abundant as friends and supporters who could not attend, like H.E. Ivo Sieber (Switzerland), Bro. Eddie Villanueva (Jesus Is Lord), and many others, sent their greetings through a video message. This celebration also coincides with the 37th wedding anniversary of Arch. & Mrs. Palafox.

The event also showcased an exhibit covering the life and works of Palafox. These includes his photos as a seminarian in Christ the King, as a student activist in the University of Santo Tomas, as a United Nations Development Program scholar of the University of the Philippines, as a master planner in Dubai, as the architect for both the SM Group and the Ayala Corp., and as founder of Palafox Associates. The featured projects encapsulate the overall experience of Palafox Associates as the leading design and planning firm with more than 900 projects in 37 countries.

Palafox was also presented a token of appreciation from the UAP by National President Arch. Rozanno Rosal, not only for his 40 years of architecture excellence but also for his support to the World Day of Architecture last 01 October 2012.

Palafox has definitely made his mark indelible in the architecure profession. Seventeen years passed since he became an architect when he thought to be capable of laying the cornerstones of what is now Palafox Associates. In the past two decades of the firm, a good list of collaborations with internationally known names in the industries has been achieved. Companies like Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM), HOK, Halcrow Fox, Atkins, Jerde and designers like Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, Robert Trent Jones, and Tom Weizkopf, among many good others.

Much can be said about the Palafox who is known to many. Palafox is the man who summarizes success and excellence in every way. Undoubtedly, he has begun an extraordinary and unparalleled quest in architecture for the future generations.
